Maths Fun 3

6 = 6 (இது ஓகேவா?)

-6 = – 6

(2 – 5/2)^ 2 = (3 – 5/2) ^ 2

[( a – b) ^2 = a*a – (2*a*b) + b*b]

(2-5/2) = (3- 5/2)

2 =  3

The flaw lies in taking only positive square roots. To explain it lemme give u an example:
    for instance:

    (2)square= (-2)square
    so, 4=4
therefore, if we apply square root to the preceding equation,
    we get, root(4)=root (4)
    therefore, +-2 = +-2

But , we cant say +2=-2(which is obviously wrong) and vice versa

Therefore, the whole process willl work only when we have simlar signs on both sides

And in accordance to this example, the previous solution to the problem 3=2 is flawed.

The above explanation is given by One of my Friends..not by me..So all credit should go to her only…

    (2-5/2)^2 = (3-5/2)^2

    2-5/2 = (plus or minus) (3-5/2)

if you take 2-5/2 = 3-5/2 its wrong because

a will be equal to b if and only if a-b is zero

so 2-5/2 is obviously -(3-5/2). therefore the proof is wrong.

    This is even worse…

oru chinna appeal…we are engineers…don’t make fun
of Math with such stupid proofs…

Math is next to GOD!!! for engineers…

    Rajesh,

Everyone knew there is flaw in both the proofs. These infact gives a deeper understanding of Maths. Maths need to be made more fun and the concepts need to be understood by common man too. I have no intention to make fun of maths, but we can have fun in maths thats my whole idea.Is this wrong?

Maths is next to GOD!! No doubt.

    Umanath,

See da, I said this only because this fun-3 proof i’ve received as a mail long back from one of my friends and that guy to my shock had not only written the ugly proof but also said that this proof is found from ramanujam’s notebook…

I replied to him why this is wrong and I was also not able to tolerate that fellow quoting this ugly proof as something that was found in ramanujam’s note..

Math is such a lovely subject but unfortunately is not received properly by many people due to the fear of it…
